The Sun Zombie is a unique creation of the priests of the Naftu Empire, and they are usually crafted from the bodies of enemies or criminals to the Empire. Their creation owes a lot to the Naftu burial customs, as the process draws heavily from mummification. They are sturdy, resilient undead that make ideal laborers in the hot desert sun. Because their creation is relatively expensive and their value as a labor pool is high, they are rarely wasted in combat where a slave would suffice. More expensive models are used by Nafu nobility as transportation, and they can often be seen pulling chariots and carrying litters in the city streets.
To create a Sun Zombie, the bodies organs are removed, the body is packed with cotton and spices, and the skin is rubbed with oils. It is then buried in the dry and salt-rich desert sand for 30 days until it is completely dessicated. After it is removed, a magical Amulet is placed in the mouth and a copper mask is afixed permanently over the face. This process leaves them with a tough and leathery skin that is still pliable enough for a range of movements, but sturdy enough to stand up to physically taxing labor. Zombies created in this way are free from rot and have distinct, but not unpleasant, smell that allows them to work alongside humans.
